My daughter is interested in raising money for local charities. Some people may be (silently) reluctant at times to give money when they are not receiving a tangible object in return. Perhaps that is my own conclusion, but I thought that if my daughter helped participate in cookie production, gradually learning the craft and selling the cookies, she could develop some skill and earn money to donate to her favourite charities. I personally have no desire to develop a cookie business, per say, but if the money went to charity, our skills could help someone else out.
We decided to design and sell a few cookies on a once-monthly basis as our initial goal, either through word-of-mouth, or perhaps via a Facebook page. I decided to consider simply generic designs, such as this Have a Great Day Cookie Set, that people could give as gifts if they chose. Offering a packaged set of 6 cookies which included a coordinating card seemed to make sense to me. Also a few individually packaged cookies as well.
I am pleased to report that her first offering sold out in 2 1/2 hours and, due to reservations placed on her next planned production, it is already “pre-sold” out, unless we increase the batch size ! (Yikes!)
My daughter has now raised 25% of the money required to commit to one year in our local “100+ Women Who Care” group, which is her first charity goal.
